AMERICAN AIRLINES -- MORE ABOUT UNIONS AND CH 11
I apologize for the structure of the post below, with no segmentation, but the system refuses to do it my way. To my post yesterday re AMR's chapter 11 filing relating my experiences over many years flying with AA, an AA pilot wrote a thoughtful comment that caused me to think a bit more about the precursors to conditions of their bankruptcy. Frankly, I have what is perhaps too much experience with trade unions and their excesses, but know less about others such as the airlines. After learning more about the negotiations of AA with their unions, I now think it's justifiable to post the comments below. I've seen too many industries destroyed by union excesses coupled with management incompetence in caving to excess demands. Start with coal (dead for many years), steel, textiles, shoes, electronics manufacturing, and more. The Detroit 3 (once the big 3) deserves special mention. As their costs rose to $72/hour (fully loaded) and costs in the southern industry w...

ReplyDeleteI'm continually amazed at how people continue to look for something in Obama that just isn't there -- brilliance, knowledge, maturity, management acumen, feelings as Richard Cohen and others have written, decisiveness, understanding of critical issues, and more.
He was undefined in 2008 and his definition now is one of failure, failure even to understand the job. His forceful rhetorical but empty speeches of 2008 are now just empty. He can "fire up a union crowd" but he hasn't a clue as to how to communicate at large.
I ignored this after the election and hoped for better, but now realize it won't be. I also still think he has an inside track to be elected just because he has the voter blocs, the money (including tax money) and the network. Interpret network in the worst way as their assertions that they must "kill Romney" suggests. No, I don't suggest they mean this literally, but they will make his life miserable. Been there with union thug threats to both Carol and me. Kept quiet until recently, but America is in peril and I haven't much reason to remain quiet.
Republicans are inept at fighting this battle and our nation is the ultimate victim.

We should not underestimate the intentions of the obamanites to turn the USA into a socialist entitlement society. The fact that socialism has failed virtually everywhere doesn't seen to have an impact on these ideologues. I have written two essays on socialism as an evil and the gift of freedom. They can be read under "Musings" on my website - www.extinctionrising.com Bob Warren
